Please join us on Saturday, Sept 27 from 10 - 11AM to tour the shop of Gordon Fry.

Gordon has been an avid woodworker, cabinet maker, and trade show set designer and fabricator since 1987 and current teaches woodworking at
Pleasant Hill Adult Ed.  You won't see any dog and pony show at this Open Shop, just Gordon and his dog named Bailey.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Fall is finally here!

Thanks to Tom Meyers who volunteered his large shop for our September meeting when the Adult School was closed, we enjoyed a deep dive into John Knight’s discussion of all things Festool.  The equipment is top-notch!

Our Board has recently expanded by two members; Steve Cho and Monir Brown.  Please give them a hearty welcome when you see them.

I’d like to give a shout-out to Joe Hirt, who worked with a Girl Scout troop making book cabinets for the Winter Nights Family shelter in Pleasant Hill.  This was their Silver Award Project.  A writeup and photos should be available soon.  Again, there are still a few details to iron out.

Now, my other hobby: the Craft Fair!  It’s time to get serious about making items for the Craft Fair to be held December 6.  There are Craft Fair Plans Here (members only), and we have other ideas as well.  Please talk to me or other people on the Craft Fair team.  You can also visit us on Wednesday afternoons in the classroom to see what we’re working on.

Last but certainly not least, we need speakers at our monthly meetings and hosts for our monthly shop tours.  Please contact me or other members of the Board.

Enjoy September, and I’ll see you around the Shop.

Help us build wood products to sell at the Craft Fair in December!

We are in great need of people to build items to sell at the fair.  Don’t have tools or wood?  We can help with that.  If you are interested, please contact Peggy Gipps (President@Diablowoodworkers.org) or another team member to ensure that you’re making something that will sell.  We really want to hear from you!

The Craft Fair was started to raise money for tools in the classroom on the Diablo Middle School campus.  We also use it for tool repair parts and sometimes, to buy wood for fair items.  So, the funds go back into the school.

We have created and uploaded plans for Craft Fair projects that can be found HERE! (members only)
