Knight Foundry
81 Eureka Street, Sutter Creek, California 95685
Saturday, 7/9/2022, 10 am to approximately 12 noon. $15 admission per person.
Our July shop tour will be something quite different, and is also on a different Saturday of the month than usual. We will be touring the Knight Foundry in Sutter Creek, “America’s last water-powered foundry and machine shop and a premier relic of Mother Lode gold mining history.” One of our members, Marvin Bargagliotti, is the docent for the pattern-making shop, which was his profession!
We are planning to start at 10 am when they open. July 9th is their monthly open house, where you can go to the different work areas and talk to the volunteer docents about the magnificent machinery that’s still intact and functional. There is no set timing, and we will not be all together as a group, but most people take about 90 minutes or two hours. Afterwards, groups can self-assemble to walk to and around the main street of the town of Sutter Creek, enjoying lunch, shopping, and/ or wine tasting. Family and friends are welcome as well! We know this is about a 2-hour drive for most people, but we think it is worth it. Please carpool if you can. We will have an ad-hoc park-and-ride carpool meeting for people who are interested in driving or riding and have not already made their own arrangements at the Pleasant Hill Adult Education Center, specifically in the back lot near the MDAE Office, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, GPS coordinates 37.938015, -122.065626, at the very end of Monticello Ave (see image below). Be there at 7:45 am for an 8:00 am sharp departure. Be prepared to drive if nobody shows up.
Hopefully this is enough to whet your interest, and you can read more at the link below before you join us there!
