About this event
Morgan Strickland, 2025.
It was early 2018 when I decided to explore fine woodworking. Until then, my woodworking experience was limited to weekend carpentry projects around the house - all with power tools and self-taught. My adventure into fine woodworking began in 2018 when I went to Portland to take one of Gary Rogowski’s week-long classes. After that, there was no turning back, I was “all-in”. It was about that same time when I discovered the Diablo Woodworkers Club and attended one of the monthly meetings and eventually started taking classes through Mount Diablo Adult Education (MDAE) in Pleasant Hill. Four years ago, we moved from the Bay Area to Ashland, Oregon. In the Bay, I had a 170 sq. ft. shop, shoe-horned into a single car garage. Now I have a dedicated 700 sq. ft. shop with a view. I’m loving it. My approach is a hybrid approach (hand tools and machines when necessary). As for my aesthetic, I’m drawn to the simplicity and exposed joinery found in the Arts & Crafts and Japanese style furniture. I also enjoy mixing materials, especially wood, stone & metal. This past year, I’ve been working more on enhancing our property than building furniture.
Recent projects include: Torri gate, home spa (cedar hot tub, sauna, outdoor shower and privacy fence), solid wood front door and kitchen remodel. Photos of completed projects can be found here:
