About this event
Bill Ridings is, by all accounts, ahead of his time. He was one of the first to with respect to re-using wood. His company, California Urban Lumber, utilizes trees cut by local municipalities and tree service companies in Northern California. All trees milled by Bill's shop were removed when necessitated by natural mortality, disease or insect damage, new construction, root damage to sidewalks or foundations, wildfire control and storm damage. |

Bill has been an avid supporter of Diablo Woodworkers since its inception. He was a good friend of DWW founder Bill Tarleton. Over the years, Bill has helped woodworkers with advice on large-scale projects. Long time DWW member Tom Myers calls him "one of the better people on the planet.” He has regularly made generous contributions to DWW including donating lumber and solid wood benches for raffle prizes at DWW events.
His shop provides beautiful, hard to find sizes of lumber to woodworkers, schools, landscape architects, and contractors. As an example: In 2008, California Urban Lumber milled over fifteen thousand board feet of lumber for JFC Construction, Inc. of Martinez, CA for use in Pleasanton’s Alviso Adobe Community Park project.
California Urban Lumber is equipped with ajaw-dropping array of milling and surfacing equipment. Those attending this shop tour are in for a treat.
NOTE: There will also be many used woodworking tools for sale. Bill is helping a friend clean out her Dad's old shop. Cash or check will be accepted. |
