Gordon has invited us to tour their well equipped Woodshop and learn how it serves the Rossmore Community. Gordon has provided the following introduction:
"The Rossmoor Woodshop is a dedicated facility for residents of this active senior community. It has undergone growth in membership and toolage since it's inception decades ago. Some three years ago, the workshop underwent a major renovation, allowing a reconfiguration of the floor plan and reorganization of the two work rooms, tool room and wood room. Housing SawStop table saws, bandsaws, miter saws, joiner, thickness planer, lathes, drill presses, and more, it is equipped for most projects.
While membership consists of the 36 supervisors, any Rossmoor resident has access to use the woodshop after viewing safety protocols and collaboration with a supervisor. As there is always a supervisor on duty (9am-4pm, Mon-Fri) residents may choose to work on their own or request assistance. Projects range from cabinetry to woodturning, breadboards, wooden clocks, wood sculpting and honey-dos. We provide some limited repair service for furniture, as well as a monthly knife sharpening day. All the proceeds go toward shop supplies and a couple of parties.
As it is a community workshop, tool inventory, location, and maintenance are significant ongoing tasks. The ever-increasing inventory booklet locates where a tool should live. Issues with tools are usually reported and addressed. While we try to keep the shop fairly clean, at night the wonderful Rossmoor cleaning wizards sweep up, just like in Camelot. All in all, it is a wonderful place to make sawdust.”
Please come join the tour.
We look forward to having you!
