Memorial Flag Case Project

Since the September 11, 2001, attack on the United States, the Diablo Woodworkers have brought the passion of woodworking to the families of first responders who have fallen in the line of duty.

Diablo Woodworkers has provided Memorial Flag Cases to first responders since September 11, 2001, when, in affiliation with the National Woodworkers Association, over 3000 flag cases were presented to the families of those first responders of 9/11. It has been our goal to continue this tradition since that time.

On Friday of last week, sadly, Oakland police officer Tuan Le was murdered. Diablo Woodworkers reached out to the Oakland Police Department and, in support, will present our Memorial Flag Case Thursday January 4th.

We honor those brave souls with a memorial flag case crafted from black walnut and accented with silver maple corner splines.  Each case is finished with a special oil that brings out the beauty of the wood and sprayed with a lasting finish.

As of February 2023, we have provided over 300 cases to the families of firefighters, police officers, sheriff deputies, highway patrol officers and more.  Our sincere thanks go to the numerous club volunteers who have provided their time to craft these very special flag cases.  We are especially appreciative of the organizers of this program: Phil Cullen and Bill Tarleton.
