A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Fellow Woodworkers,
Summer is here, and I hope you’re all finding a little extra time in the shop—and maybe even finishing a project or two before the next one inevitably begins.
First, congratulations to all who participated in this year’s President’s Challenge, and especially to our winners. The creativity, craftsmanship, and effort on display were outstanding. These challenges continue to showcase the talent within our club and inspire the rest of us to raise our game.
We continue to make great progress with our recent lumber donation. Thanks to the efforts of our Lumber Resource Committee, the inventory is being carefully preserved and managed, and we recently held our first sale—a true win-win. Members were able to purchase quality hardwood at great prices, and the club generated approximately $3,000 to support our programs. We look forward to additional sales in the future. We have also made our first lumber donation to Fort Bragg High Scholl in Mendocino, extending the benefit of this gift beyond our membership and into the broader community.
Our recent meetings have featured an impressive lineup of speakers, including Tessa Petrich, a local architect and graduate of the Krenov School, whose presentation was both insightful and inspiring. Programs like these continue to bring fresh ideas and perspectives into our shops.
Our shop tours this past quarter included a visit to the shop at Rossmore Woodshop where our host, Gordon Huffaker gave us an overview of the shop's activities and explained how it is available to all residents of the community. We then visited Berkeley Mills where the founder, Gene Agress, explained his philosophy, woodworking developments and then gave a tour of the shop explaining how they produced the beautiful furniture and cabinets that have made the shop so well respected.
Don’t forget that raffle tickets are now available—both at the school and at club meetings—for the Maloof-style rocking chair. This is a rare opportunity to own a truly beautiful piece. The drawing will be held at our summer picnic on August 12, so be sure to get your tickets.

Finally, a big thank-you to Joe Hirt, Kent Ball, and the entire team working on this year’s Community Project at the Bounty Garden. The critter-protective cages will provide meaningful support to an organization that helps feed those in need. Diablo Woodworkers has contributed $5,000, the Bounty Garden has raised over $5,000 through its GoFundMe efforts, and David Lipscomb is reaching out to local Rotary Clubs to help secure the remaining funds needed to complete the project. This is community woodworking at its best.
